OUGD403 - Study Task 02 - Yorkshire Sculpture Park Symbol

Context:

For this task the objective was to make a symbol that effectively represented a specific establishment. The chosen organisation that we were given to research was Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Primary Research:

Selection of some of the photos and sketches I took of the different sculptures around the park, I found that documenting this was very essential to development of the work.

From a group crtitique I learnt that I have not shown my journey of development in enough detail and with enough information.

Outcome:

What I observed from the trip was that it was a very family friendly environment, I took this into mind when choosing the colours and the style of the logo. I thought an illustrative style would give my work a friendlier and more approachable vibe in comparison to the current design.
With the challange of not including type, by planning the layout I subttley tried to incorperate a 'y' into the design with the use of space. I think this worked well as a final design and am happy with the outcome. If I had more time I would of looked at different alternatives and colour choices. As the park is very open and full of nature I chose quite earthy colours to illustrate the atmosphere of the park.

Current Design

Critique:

  • Y shape good, complimentary colours, good clear sketches
  • Justification of colour choice, good experimentation of ofther potential logos
  • Good idealisation of target audience
  • How colour effects audience
  • Sketches are good, needs colour theory
  • Good idea to consider target audience
  • I like that the y is hidden within the logo, could look more into colour choices
  • Your research is relevant to logo design for example target audience
  • Great sketches, good mention target audience, good playful logo
  • I like the justification of it being family oriented has a different view from everyone else, good sketches and development
  • Nice abstract form of the letter "y"
  • Idenfitication of target audience, test at different scales, explore a range of potential resolutions
  • Different concepts put into one symbol is good, would have been nice to see more development and influences
  • Detailed and thought out sketches, I love the final design it might be different to the other s but it works really well, (development idea) maybe with the colours they could link to the seasons?
  • detailed well thought out with the incorperation of the name inside logo
