Studio Brief 01 - Design Producution - Type in context

For this brief the focus to be on an urban environment. Leeds is such a big city so to highlight its variety in which different platforms exsist is an interesting perspective which provides a lot of different ranges of type in context.

Important things to consider:
  • Where is it used?
  • Where was it taken?
  • What purpose does it serve?
  • Its effectiveness?
  • Is it easy to read?
These images should have a narrative, to create that, its interesting to take them in chronological order. The diversity in the styles and mediums is what will make the final product stand out.

Different themes:

Although I want there to be a sense of spontaneity I do want there to be some sort organization within the different contexts and significance to the focus of the location (Leeds)
  • Directions
  • Food/Drink locations (Pubs/restaurants)
  • Transport
  • Colour
  • Street art
  • Signs
Outcomes:

In no particular order

Format:

By assembling these photos into a standard book layout theres the potential to see how feel and the composition work as a set and whether is communicates the the main message.

Theres also a lot of structure and order to signs to these images, I think to combine structure and also a sense of creativity would be a good representation of leeds and be interesting to explore.

Plan:
  1. Gather all photos together
  2. Isolate some of the lettering from photos
  3. Sketch out some ideas that I want to explore
  4. Consider the format of the work
  5. Look at how to present work
