Study Task 03 - Public Information Video/Research - Lonely Water

Lonely Water

Message
The message of the film was to warn children of the dangers of water.
Key facts
Made in 1973 the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents set up a
working party to look at ways of reducing drowning accidents. The rates of accidents had
lowered following the 1970's but drowning is the third most common cause of death among children.
Tone of voice
Using an ominous and dark tone to this works than rather than just presenting facts that
children might ignore they use a scary fictional figure which will make children more wary and
be more memorable.
Audience
It uses children as the focus which makes sense as this accident is usually seen by children who might
not be as well informed as adults and take signs seriously as they are more curious of things and
not as aware of danger.
