Mindmap of ideas:

Research
Although its not directly related to the issue of water safety I found this childrens book created by Laura Guard written by Giles Andrea relies on typography to illustrate as the imagery, features lots of textures and ranges of interesting typography.
Theres a lot of character and enthusism in the wording, and its something I'll aim to achieve in the choice of typography and colours.
Educational childrens publications
Looking at specifically educational book for children "Whats Out There? A Book About Space written by Lynn Wilson and illustrated by Paige Billin Frye. Again it uses textures and quite bright colours to engage a young audience and features educational information in the form of illustrations to remain memorable and interesting for its target audience.

I decided on this design as the final choice
It seemed vibrant enough to be on the front cover to attract attention but not overwhelmingly bright, and also the
Didn't like the width of this, had an imbalance somehow and seemed short, didn't read as well
Difference in wording in conveying message comparing "lets learn" and just a title
I wanted the title to be engaging so using "Lets learn" had a sense of enthusiam to it which connects to its target audience. But this title in particular seemed too long.
Choice between two of black or red type. I chose red for the final result as it gave more balace in having the same colour on another page giving a contrast of both pages, I went on to use this with
I think the choice of red is aggressive, giving a clear message in the nature of the design

Final page:
I tried to seperate each phrase so there was a flow of how it was read and an importance and urgency in the tone of voice and colour associated with it.
The concept of the booklet is to isolate the facts given in the video and convey it in a simple and memorable way. To give a consistent look, using the same font and composition choice seemed appropriate. The choice in colouring came from the design of warning signs seen at the side of water.
Evaluation:
I knew early on that I wanted to create a booklet that had a simple concept and just used type as a means for communicating, I also wanted to make sure that there was correct information that was educational and easy to absorb in a short amount of time. To a first concept, development in research, as a result I think I've been able to deliver work that reflect the message of the original source material. With more time I would of liked the opportunity to explore the format of the information looking at the manipulation of shape. I think to give a better aid of visuals, illustrations along with or instead of font would work as a means to give information, but there is also the challange of effectively communicating to an audience with just the restriction of type and colour choice which I think has been quite successful. I think more in depth research looking at statistics and data would of aided me in creating a more informative piece of work.
