Speaking from experience

Studio Brief
To create an engaging and informative piece of work that tackles the issue mental health which can both provide informative and encouraging content that reaches a large amount of people.

Background/Considerations:
The consideration of the audience within this work is vital to the outcome of the work within the tone of voice and the type of information and advice that will provided.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Body of work that reaches a large target audience.
  • Blog posts
  • Design boards

Deliverables:

  • A digital response
  • Blog post illustrating the journey of the product and the creative process with clarity and consideration for the brief.

Supporting Resources information:

Possible names for blog:

I want the name to communicate a sense of safety while also being relevant to a student audience.

Safespace
-Thehappystudent
-Safeplace
-Happyface
-Happythoughts
-Happynoggin
-Healthynoggin

Research:

By searching online for student focused mental health services there are quite a few useful resources, I think the challenge of this will be to make my own creation unique in some way. Possibly having a student specific blog thats run by a student might make it stand out.

Language:

I think the tone of voice in this brief is paticularly important as its talking directly to people and aims  to be helpful. With the promotional design I want it to be eye catching but not intimidating giving with friendly and encouraging wording and design to aid this.

Format:

-Tumblr seems like my most accessible source when creating something (Popular with students and easy to access and has a mobile friendly app which is great for more accessibility)

- Coding possibly (time consuming, and I've not delved into it in much detail and could be difficult in the space of time we have)

Possible outcome/aims:

A promotional poster design that could be put around the university to advertise the blog and give support to freshers.

  • A blog giving advice on dealing with stress and tips on settling into university.

  • A poster possibly giving quick ideas on how to take care of yourself and how to settle into university when you've just arrived.
  • A small booklet giving some advice on settling in to first years.

Sketches:

I want the focus to being on student wellbeing as for me it was the biggest thing to overcome when starting university and feeling overwhelmed with everything being so new.

First idea:

The colours are too pale, my idea was to make them calming. I would of liked to look more into this idea and be a more through with my research.

Final outcome:

Originally I wanted to make something more informative and with more depth but my time management isn't one of my strong points, with more development i think this idea could work a lot better.

Evaluation:

Im not very happy with this outcome as I didn't have the amount of time I wanted to complete it, I think with better time management and development this could of been a lot stronger as an idea.

A think all my work needs to be better refined within different skills and be able to present those skills effectively, another big aim I have is to become much more organised with my work.

I wanted to originally make this in a blog format and something that'd be easy for students to access and gain some advice but i didn't orangnise myself effectively enough and I ran out of time in the end.

The distribution might be difficult as its in a booklet format and printing and accessibility to printing adds a difficulty to this.
