Studio brief 01 -Responsive - In Cold Blood - Digital development

Digital development

Experimenting with different digital outcomes which have been informed by research.

Experiment 01

Although this idea is quite effective there is a lack of consideration for the type, it doesn't seem to fit very well

Feedback:

Question : Do you think this cover is effective? Is the concept clear?

  • This image was created in the attempt of placing a 'happy' image and contrasting it with a newspaper headline style.
  • "I think the effect is alright however I don't think it really establishes the tone very well with the image and type"
  • "Its unclear what this book would be about initially"
  • "I don't think the type works with this and the framing around the image doesn't seem very effective"
  • I think exploring type more and maybe doing some research about type and newspaper headings could help better inform this"
  • "Although this idea is quite effective there is a lack of consideration for the type, it doesn't seem to fit very well"

Experiment 02

Evoking empathy into the audience. Using real images, gives the cover more of a connection to the real life story that the book has which could be forgotten and only the focus of the gore aspect of the story. Its a simple concept but it could equally be as shocking.

Feedback

Question: Do you think this would make an effective outcome that evokes compassion?

  • "I think the concept is quite good however I don't think the type works here very well"
  • "possibly, as a book cover I'm not sure that its bold enough, it doesn't stand out that well"
  • "Try exploring more type and this could be a lot more effective"
  • "I think the use of the image works quite well however I'm not sure about the type and the rest, I don't think I would notice this on a bookshelf

Experiment 03

This cover is a very simple concept  but it reflects the beginning and end of the story which has a strong focus on the location. Theres also a level of ambiguity which could be intriguing to the consumer.

The text against the background is really bold in comparison to the image which could take the focus away from the background.

The focus on location is an aspect that may not be thought of with a book around the idea of murder and may be seen as hard to create

Feedback:

Question: What does this work convey to you? Do you think you would notice this on a bookshelf?

  • "These colours work very well, they give a cold feeling to the tone of the book which I think is really effective"
  • "I think the red works well against the background, although i'm not sure the type is bold enough"
  • "Try and look different type as I think thats whats letting it down. its not very bold, apart from that I think this could work well if developed more"
  • "I think this cover gives a sense of mystery, the use of the house works well and the way the text is placed however I don't think the tone of the book is really conveyed in the cover as well as it could be"
  • "I think this cover works the best out of all three, the colour is effective and has an creepiness to it, theres a lot of mystery to this cover which I like"
