Studio Brief 01 - Leeds Public Spaces - Research - Establishing a topic

Events & Spaces

The history of Leeds provides a lot to be explored in the spaces and their uses. Understanding the range of events that take place and the impact they have had on the city in a variety of ways. 

                                                

Time: 1904

Event: Opened their first shop in a covered arcade in Leeds

Location: Kirkstall Market

Impact/importance: 

Marks and Spencers have played a role in daily British life for over one hundred years. To recognize the impact and the test of time its held for so long is something that would be really relevant to a huge part of Leeds history and understanding the development and impact the company has had on the history of Britain.

Event:  'Live at Leeds' Rolling stones recorded album in 1982 

Location: Roundhay Park

Impact / Importance:

The music scene of Leeds has shaped it to be what is it is, it's extremely diverse. There are loads of music festivals and event that take place frequently, there is always something to see and a range.

Time: 1858

Event: Queen Victoria visits Leeds amid celebration for the opening of the new town hall 

Location: Leeds Town Hall 

Impact / Importance: 

Around 200,000 people came to see the queen.
