Research

How can these older designs inform current designs within their use of type, layout and colour?

Some previous classic covers:

A very obvious representative of the content, the use of red is prominent, immediately we know as an audience what the tone of the novel is which is what an audience wants. However a level of mystery can be just as intriguing if done well.

The cover gives a sense of the subject matter, almost like a warning to the audience, theres no way to look at this cover and not have the impression of fowl play in some way.

This cover has a really simple concept but fits the content and the style of book very well. It stands out as a crime novel, most books in this genre has the presentation of having quite dark tones, to see this on a shelf would definitely stand out amongst other titles.

This cover design has quite a bold tone even though its quite minimal and basic in its concept. Theres not a lot going on but theres a lot being said. Its quite a sad tone, theres a sense of quietness, and from the effects of the crime in the novel this can be quite a tragic tone that's been chosen  that the cover has taken.

Quite ambiguous in the design which opens up interpretation theres a solem tone but theres a

classic style to this cover, giving the reader a sense of the time period when it was made.
