Studio brief 02 - Responsive - Collaborative practice - Brief considerations

Brief considerations -

Choosing a creative team

Each member of the team has a set of individual skills, interest, abilities which would create the most effective outcome.

Jen - Knowledge photography, interest in fashion and editorial design

Sam - Skilled in illustration, good understanding of the production and creation of animation

Rob - Knowledge in photography, skilled in editing both photography and layout

Myself - Knowledge of illustration, interested in print and typography

By establishing these skillsets there is the ability to assign roles later down the line, the diversity in which our skills and interested are suited to also allows an understanding of the potential within working as a group, rather than all our skills as graphic designers being the same we aimed to prove that graphic design can be diverse within interests, but we all had a similar goal in what we wanted to create.

DN&AD Brief - Monotype

Rationale

As a group, we had all previously selected this brief as out referred brief of choice. The rationale for choosing this brief was the basis that it requires an interest and understanding of type which as a group we all had as well as an interest in different cultures in many different aspects, in grouping up we felt that there

Understanding the important of typography in relation to larger topics such as identity and visuals and understanding that type is communication between communities and cultures.

Different social, environmental and political issues which can be addressed.

Considerations

As well as considering the rationale there was also an importance in highlighting the different factors in which to consider towards development and understanding of the requirements of the brief.

Having an understanding the target audience and it being open to anyone, those who are interested in having a discussion or dialogue on the specific issue raised and how it highlights communication and the diversity at the heart of the issue. While also thinking about different audiences to consider in which creating better understanding and dialogues between groups, communities and cultures are more important than ever

Understanding the challenges being presented in the brief to highlight a misunderstood, community culture or country which we feel is not being accurately represented as what it really stands for, gaining this understanding through thoroughly collected research.

Typography should be at the heart and understanding of the project in that it is a large part of how we can identify different cultures and the way they communicate and represent themselves, geography, and the industry in media, politics and society.

Consideration of the unique aspects of the topic to pursue and how type can be used to present this effectively, uniting and creating understanding. Being aware of the stereotypes the chosen culture could possibly represent and being and avoid representing this, diverse research will provide information which can be used to create understanding and applying this to the work will create an accurate representation of the chosen topic.

Essential considerations - Outcome

  • At least one poster

Show how the outcome is relevant to the subject matter
