Studio brief 01 - Responsive - Collaborative practice - Monotype - Monotype research

In order to be more familiar with monotype exploring  their values, ideals and work is the best way of exploring this.

Who are Monotype?
                                                                      

Monotype is made up of passionate designers developers, engineers, developers and account managers, as well as working with creative directors, product managers and marketers to creative innovative solutions with challenge the limits of type.

They are providers of 20,000 different types, some of the worlds most well recognised fonts and being most prominent within newspapers books, apps, websites and many more, as well as being having expertise knowledge of technologies of type.

Most notably their main goal is to enable users to express and give distinctive identity to individual work but most of all they share a love of type which is important to take into consideration with the briefs development and overall outcome. 





Dan Rhatigan one of monotypes directors, talks passionately about type in an engaging and human way. His work is innovative in terms of sustainability in his creation of Ryman Eco which has been described as being “the world’s most beautiful sustainable font,” as it uses 33% less ink than the likes of standard type such as arial, Roman, Georgia and Verdana, within his consideration there is proof that type can be meaningful and its presence can be concious of other factors around it such as the environment. 

Dan also talks about tattoos "My tattoos are all shapes i love out of different typefaces, sometimes just because I think they're beautifully drawn in of themselves" 




"My tattoos are really about typefaces that I've seen where I see great shapes which I absolutely love "

This is quite a unique perspective which we get insight into regarding tattoos, its unusual to see type used this way but its refreshing to see its used really effectively, really proving that type can be extremely diverse within its use and even single lettering of type can be effective.
