Studio brief 01 - Leeds public spaces - Evaluation

What was fundamental within the success of this briefs outcome was the consideration of what was being depicted, when identifying a location there were a few considerations on which location to depict within this brief.

Choosing the location of Kirkgate market was an easy choice, there were a few considerations however but Kirkgate is such a prominent name within Leeds, with its history and popularity, its also in the 'heart of leeds' and theres so much there to see.

The beginnings of Kirkgate were noteworthy to address, Mr Marks was a polish immigrant, coming to the UK for a better life, not knowing English and what held for his future, he was able to make a name for himself being

this kind of recognition within recent political climate seemed appropriate as well and was the origin of my interest to this topic. There was an undertaking of various research, both primary and secondary was informative within developing the ideas.

There were a few difficulties within conveying the tone of the work, the original screen print concept was effective in some aspects within conveying an accurate depiction of the actual location within a literal sense, within an illustration style outcome. However it lacked any excitement to the opening of the location at the time of the event, a place like the Penny Bazaar wasn't common or even heard of within 1884, the nature of Mr Marks humble beginnings and his consideration for different incomes, there was an accessibility to the shop, there was no admin to enter meaning that all walks of life could experience the shop.

Focusing on this excitement that the event would of brought was important to the tone of the work and the design. To convey this there were various developments to be considered within design, the observation of other successful and historical outcomes were informative within a visual understanding of successful outcomes.

The production of the final outcome was informed by the intricate nature of the final design, this intricacy was important to the tone of the work, although the design is modern so to speak the method adds authenticity and a 'handmade' feel to it bringing stylisation to the work within a unique depiction of the location, the hard work in which marks and spencers has grown as a brand has requirered a lot of hard work, to depict this location within an 'easy' conventional method, didn't seem appropriate or give the creators of the brand justice.

This outcome was effective in that it conveyed the intended tone and was informed by thorough considerations.
