Studio brief 01 - Leeds public spaces - First outcome

This was an outcome which had been informed by research and feedback. The intent of the design was to convey a classic perception of the public spaces within typography layout and colour

Design

Production

Screen print seemed like the appropriate method to explore as there is an allowance of experiment with colour, which had been explored previously in detail as well as mass production and experimentation in effectiveness. Screen print is a method that improves with practice which within personal practice hadn't been explored as a method very frequently. The detail within the design also allowed easy application rather than another method which might be time consuming.

Issues

There were a few issues within the production of this print, the application of the ink wasn't done effectively which affected a lot of the prints, the method of this printing technique requires a rapid fire approach which wasn't fully considered within this context, which effected the outcome quite a lot.

Outcome

Printed on various stock and some with layering design applied and some not to test the effectiveness.

Feedback

  • The design is good but the colour isn't very effective
  • Use of lettering is effective and conveys the message
  • Feels like there is something missing to the design
  • Although there is an image of a building its not clear what it is
  • Doesn't seem like an events poster with the tone it create
  • Needs more excitement within the tone and being an events poster
  • Not sure the colour use is effective in context with the subject matter
  • Maybe make the message clearer with different colour for the detail? Think it needs more depth to the design.
