Its been established by various sources that UK households waste more than they should which has been proven with data, statistics, extensive research etc.
A study created by Samsung showed that around £500 is wasted within each household, and even more surprisingly half of the food that goes binned hasn't been opened.
An article posted by Huffington post revealed that 75% of brits do a big shop each week, and 83% said they top up that shop during the week, this contradicts the data presented as many items of waste go unopened, suggesting that there is a definite excess in retail consumption of food items by British people, Huffington post goes on to address one of the reasons for this waste is miscommunication and misunderstanding of foods 'sell by' 'use by and 'best before' and also the way that food storage is misinformed, shockingly only 18% of people actually use the compartments in the fridge properly for different produce.
Fiona Macare, the science correspondent for the daily mail further states that the best before dates are a sign of quality but they also cause confusion. Many foods past this date are often edible but many consumers think it needs to be disposed of.
