Studio brief 02 - Product, range and distribution - Resolutions

These are various ways of reducing food waste as found from research amongst various resources, these resolutions have been found through secondary research, there are a lot of solutions meaning a lot of possibility for various approaches, also taking note of the importance of considering  the student demographic with this issue and the engagement with the variety of these resolutions.

Storing food

By correctly storing food there is a way of prevention of unnecessary waste that happens, giving more life to food

Some of these methods are simple everyday things that can easily be communicated such as putting milk on the shelf rather than the door, making it colder and last longer, meaning more use and less waste

Spinach is a commonly wasted food and it can last a lot longer by simply wrapping it in paper towels and then putting into a sandwich bag. This is easy to follow instructions and would be easily conveyed within a graphic solution and other methods similar to this which require just a bit more simple consideration of how we store food.

Freezing food

Freezing food is a popular method of preserving food and everyone has access to do so.
Bread and veg and milk are the most wasted food (according to the survey)

The method is fairly straight forward as well from what I found:

To freeze vegetables - boil the veg for a few seconds in water
Put into freezing water to cool them down
sprinkle with salt, take out of the bag and then

This wouldn't be too hard to convey, possibly a campaign which talks about the importance of freezing food and saving money could be considered further.

Leftovers

Using your leftover food to is an easy and effective method of utilising food that's been previously prepared without preparing another meal, takes minimal effort to enjoy a leftover meal.

Meal prepping / planning

By planning what we eat there is much less opportunity to waste foods during the week. It can be seen as time-consuming and most don't want to take that time go through this, a student demographic wouldn't probably be very engaged with this, however, this could be an opportunity to engage with the student demographic with this issue.

Planning shopping trips

Using a list or planning your shopping trip is an effective way of being more aware of what we buy on shopping trips. It directs the issue to the source. We as a society, in general, buy more than we need in order feel like we've saved money in buying more when in fact most of what is bought is wasted, especially when bought in bulk.

Using what you have

Could be classed 'Emergency recipes' being resourceful with what items are in the fridge instead of buying more food and wasting what is already in the fridge.
